Organic Vegan Nutella Chocolate Hazelnut Spread

By Stephen Howard

Finding organic and delicious sweets is not always easy thing to do. Most products contain different ingredients you just don't want to consume. And, when it comes to popular spreads, the things get worse. On the other hand, you could make your own delicious spread whenever you want, and this particular recipe is so simple you can try it today, with no special preparations.

This recipe contains just a few ingredients, and require maybe half an hour of your precious time. For preparing this amazingly tasty organic vegan nutella chocolate hazelnut spread you will need just some good quality organic hazelnuts, dairy free chocolate and maybe something to sweeten the things. And, of course, a good food processor.

Smoothie maker is much faster and gets better results than usually used blenders, but most food processors are also good for this purpose. This recipe uses four cups hazelnuts and two cups dark chocolate, but you can use different ratios if you want. Molasses is added for sweetness, because it gives richer taste, but maple syrup is also great for this, it is up to your taste.

First, you have to roast the hazelnuts. Just put them on some large pan and roast for about fifteen minutes on 175 degrees Celsius. Shake the pan once or twice in between. After that, place warm nuts on large kitchen towels, cover with another towel and roll around and try to remove as much skin as you can. Use clean towels and repeat the process.

Put the hazelnuts in your blender and process until they become kind of a paste, like a hazelnut butter. Now it is time to add melted dairy free chocolate. Taste the mixture and add some molasses or maple syrup to adapt it to your taste. Adding liquids will make your spread a little bit harder, but the taste will be great.

Some prefer using cocoa instead. When you use cocoa powder in the mixture, instead of melted chocolate, it won't be so creamy. But, if you combine it with a spoon or two of hot water first, you might get much smoother results. It won't have any affect on the taste, but the spread will be really creamy.

Adding molasses will enrich the taste, but it is also a good idea to add some vanilla extract as well. In any case. This mixture can be safely kept in the fridge for a few weeks or so. But, once you taste it, you will probably eat it much sooner. The bigger problem is not to eat it the very same day. Do not prepare while on any type of a diet.

Once you try this recipe, you might want to experiment with slightly different tastes. For example, you might want to spice it with a few drops of orange oil. Simply squeeze fresh orange zest in, and you'll get your own, deliciously orange spiced nutella. Or, you may boil cloves or cinnamon in water, and use this water for combining with cocoa powder, when preparing this delicacy. Or you could simply enjoy in the original recipe.
