An Introduction To The Joyoung Rice Cooker

By Henry Green

It is estimated that about half of the population in the world enjoy rice as a staple food diet. What makes rice so popular is that it is affordable, versatile and highly nutritious. It is also very easy to store and cook. Since it is eaten so much, it is also cooked a lot. It is unfortunate that many people cannot cook rice properly. The Joyoung Rice Cooker can address this problem.

Rice is a very healthy food as it is low in fats and sodium but very rich in complex carbohydrates. It comes in different types such as parboiled, dehydrated or frozen. The brown rice is usually one of the healthiest types of rice and is an excellent source of dietary fiber.

Many people use the traditional method of cooking rice. This involves boiling and then steaming. The process starts by measuring a certain amount of rice and mixing it with a certain amount of water. The mixture is heated to a boil for a certain period of time.

The results of the traditional cooking method are not so enjoyable. If the wrong amount of water is used, after the rice has cooked, the excess water needs to be drained. This loosens the rice texture making a mess.

In other instances, regulating the heat is the issue. The rice after boiling needs to steam for a short period under a steady low heat source. Most people end up burning the rice or at best scorching it. They are not able to judge the right heat amount needed and it then ends up burning.

Asians are known to be the best at cooking rice. If you visit an Asian restaurant, you will notice the perfect texture, fragrance and delicious taste of the different rice dishes served. The secret they use with all these dishes is the use of electric rice cookers.

The origin of rice cookers is in Japan. To the Japanese, rice cooking is an art they take seriously. The first rice cookers were basic and simple. The latest technology of rice cookers has advanced and now includes different settings for different rice types. Some models even include settings for other grains and foods.

Rice cookers are also known as rice steamers. They make the fluffiest and perfect textured rice. They work by heating rice and the water evenly at a constant temperature, until all the water is absorbed. When measuring the water and the rice, it is advised to use the measuring cup that comes with the cooker.

Once the water starts boiling, the temperature is maintained at about 100 degrees. After the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked, the temperature range changes automatically and the device changes to a keep warm function until the rice is ready to be served. With the joyoung cooker just like any other electric rice cooker, scorching rice is a thing of the past.

Rice is considered to be a meal in Japan. It is therefore very beneficial that most of the rice cookers have advanced to include food settings for other non-rice dishes. These include foods such as stews, desserts, steamed vegetables, soups, meats and even hot cereals.
