Try Dairy Free Whipped Cream To Make Fast Sweet Treats

By Ryan Phillips

The battle of the bulge often restricts what some call guilty pleasures. These days, food lovers and renowned chefs are finding new ways for regular people to enjoy the dishes they love. This includes dessert, as more are calling for dairy free whipped cream as a way to reduce saturated fat.

At one time, plant diets seemed only right for rabbits. With no flavor and less variety, it is no wonder that anyone who followed the old way of going vegetarian lost weight quickly. However, it seems like only a handful of people could make this way of eating a lifestyle.

Other tricks of the trade include creating a colorful fruit bowl. While some people prefer to use fresh fruit, most grocery stores sell this already chopped and seeded for immediate consumption. Most commonly prepared fruits are apple slices, blueberries, and pineapple but anyone can choose a theme like all berries or add coconut flakes for a tropical bowl.

Many people who grew up with nondairy whipped topping products may have looked like it was made from cream, but the taste said differently. These products, while convenient due to its being able to store for months at a time, were loaded with oils and preservatives. Even though there were versions that were labeled fat free, the chemical taste remained.

Besides the nut cream in condensed form, some recipes call for adding maple syrup or raw agave nectar, along with a little vanilla extract. Mixing in cocoa powder is great for topping cake or other dessert. People who make this topping may add their own spin on it by adding ground cinnamon, citrus peel, or vanilla.

Although the dairyless cream is great on gelatin desserts, it can be used the same way to make sweets that only taste sinful. It can be layered in a clear dish to make a fruit or pudding parfait with chunks of fat free angel food cake. A lot of people who are staying away from ice cream but want just to add something special during the warm weather may like a fruit sorbet with a dollop of cream.

One way to enjoy favorite pie recipes is to eliminate one of the two crust layers. Canola or olive oil makes a nice substitute for butter or margarine, along with using applesauce instead of sugar to sweeten the fruit. By topping with a little cream, anyone can have a dessert that has reduced calories and fat. If there are no recipes that show how to cut out the bad stuff, it may help to do a little experimenting.

This taste sensation is nothing like the oily products of yesteryear that had a chemical aftertaste, which was due to the many preservatives that manufacturers added. Even better, these whips have nutritional value and are not loaded down with white sugar products. There are many recipes out there that satisfy most vegetarian and vegan diets.
